read if you’re a student unsure of studying.

Assalamualaikum,

Im a medical student. And id like to voice out to everyone that medics aren’t that different from the others.

Before getting into medicine, the students would have gone through at least one interview. In this interview, the panels will bombard you with questions like;

Why medicine?

What do you see in yourself in 10 years?

Or something like that just to squeeze out information out of the applicants. But one question a panel had asked me gave me a new principle to live by;

“What’s the difference of applying to this course than any other courses?”

I had a moment. Thinking.
And so I answered.

“Simple, none. There is no difference. Besides physical factors, the outcome of applying to any course, be it a diploma, a degree, masters, PhDs. The outcome will always be the same. You have to learn. Because to me, everyone has the same set of skills, but what differs them amongst themselves are what skills have they polished. A doctor has to learn treating patients. An engineer has to learn inventing machines. A teacher has to learn to teach. A chef has to learn to cook. A mother has to learn to care. A father has to learn to provide.”

Skills, talents, expertise, aptitudes, strengths, dexterities, abilities, competencies, or capabilities. It is all the same level in everyone in the beginning. Always has been.

So why is there a difference amongst ourselves?

We have all the time that another has, the only variable that dismisses us from having great achievements as others would, is simply the way we use our time is not as competent as the other is using theirs. To me, the problem and the solution is the same, Allah has grant us weaknesses. As we learn something new, we make mistakes. We fail. We stumble. We fall. That is our weakness. Yet, that weakness is what gives us strength. But we forget that, every weaknesses that Allah gave is never permanent. It is a skill to sharpen. A passion to hone. We can refine any weaknesses we have until it is perfect. But the only catch is, we have too much weaknesses in so little time. Hence, man made a simple and bold solution. A statement.

Nobody is perfect.

But mankind prefers to forget they can be as near as perfection as they want to be. No one is ever incapable of learning what another can. No one is dumb. No one is weak. No one is helpless.

Anyone can be anyone.

Remind yourself, no task is ever hard. You just need to keep learning and trying till it gets as easy as you want it to be. Get up. Move forward. Just always remind yourself to not give up just yet.
