First of all, I want to thank this page for posting my confession. I just want to confess on how regrettful I was after watching ‘How Do I Look Asia’ season 3 episode 1.
OK. Why you may ask.
I don’t know why they don’t want us to look younger than our age. They want us to look as our age. If you are 23, look 23. If you are 30, look and act like you are 30. Whyyy
Nisaa (as they claimed) looked like a 13 years old boy although for me, I quite like her simple attire and her shoes were not that hideous. Nisaa, for me, looked simple and outgoing. Wearing her crumpled shawl, long-sleeves muslimah blouse, a pair of khaki trousers and that shoes. I don’t know what its name but they have shoe laces but they are not made of cloth. Casual attire for college students.
Moving on. Elfira Loy. Her comments. Wow. Was she so excited speaking in English that she forgot about manner? Being in a show that uses English does not allow you to act like western people. Showing holes in others’ shirts, mocking others’ style and changing their attire to something that does not cover all of the aurat for me is quite rude. I think it is rude. Considering you are in international TV airing to possibly people all around the globe! Are you forgetting about al-haya’? Shame.
Prior, Nisaa entered the show wearing long sleeves, chest covered shawl and socks. She was a very modest muslimah. But after the transformation, the clothes which Elfira Loy had picked for her showed Nisaa’s body shape, her ankles and her wrists! And Elfira even commented she envied Nisaa for the body shape! What had happened to our eastern culture there?
I anticipated the new season would be great as they brought a properly dressed muslim woman with hijab into their show. I thought they would transform her to a feminine looking muslimah but still care for her body parts which are not supposed to be shown to ajnabi. Clearly, I was wrong. I was soooo wrong! I was so disappointed (as in break-up kind of disappointment) that I didn’t watch the end of the show.
When Jiannie Mai, the host said Nisaa will be attracting many men to look at her, I felt disgust. Excuse me, I am not a perfect muslimah myself, but changing someone into something that she is not supposed to be is not a good platform for a show like that in an Islamic plus eastern country (sadly, at the end of the show Nisaa claimed that is how she is within). But I guess we are not their potential marketer.
Luring men’s sight is not why we dress up ourselves. Even if a muslimah dresses up beautifully with colourful hijab and stylish pants or blouses, that does not mean we want to be the centre of attention! We dress like that to feel confidence and also one of our method of dakwah bil hal. But not like how Nisaa was dressed in the show. Her dress, at the end of show (when I said I did not stay till the end of the show, I meant the appreciation posts and subtitle prepared by bla bla bla) was disappointing.
Well, I think that is what I get for watching such show. Serve my inner peace. I have learnt my lesson all right. Never to hope such show to fulfill my very conventionally conservative eastern taste bud. I have guessed wrong. My bad. I will watch more educational channel after this.
