Surah An-Nur

Salam. Saya mohon maaf kerana berbahasa Inggeris selepas ini. Saya cuba menulis dalam bahasa Melayu tetapi agak berputar belit ayat-ayat saya. Saya dahulunya seorang pelajar di UIA, yalah nama pun IIUM Confession. I know well that theres another page of IIUM Confessions BI, but I opted for this page instead as I am hopeful that a lot more would read this post. Ambil yang baik, buang yang buruk.

This babbling session of mine is purely because of a comment on Facebook that completely shatters my heart. The comment was on a Facebook post that listed 10 notorious murder cases in Malaysia that included Mona Fandey, Botak Chin and so on, and the case I am referring to now is case No. 10, the case of Canny Ong. Before I dive into that, let me just indulge you more on the case.

As of all cases, this one too is an emotional one. She was happily married and lived overseas with her husband and at the time, decided to come back to Malaysia to visit her ailing father. On that day, she went out for dinner with her friends, sister and mother. They had dinner and wanted to go home. The trio (the late Canny, her sister and her mother) came with a car, parked at the basement parking lot. They got on the lift and down to the parking lot. They wanted to pay the for the parking, but where iss the parking ticket?

They cant seem to have it in their bags. To make things easier and not wanting for her mother to walk all the way to the car, Canny left her sister and her mother to wait at the Autopay machine and went to the car to get the ticket. Maybe it was left in the car. Isn’t that what happens to us most of the time?

If you read the case law on this; https://www.kehakiman.gov.my/directory/judgment/file/05-25-2007%20_B_.pdf it was stated that the rapist, Ahmad Najib was there at the parking lot in his car, seemingly searching for a parking space long before the late Canny’s lift arrived at that floor.

Alone she was, walking in between rows of cars, aiming straight to her’s, oblivious to the fact that a guy saw her and was following her from the back. This guy was at the parking lot too. He waited till she got to her car, pushed her and himself in and left the parking lot. This all happened whilst Canny’s mother was a few feet away, waiting for her daughter at the parking lot.
She didn’t make it. Raped, her body was found squished into a can, burnt and cemented. A large amount of blood stained found in the car, strangled, hands tied. The whole awful scenario.

This is where I’ll stop. Ahmad Najib was there earlier, what was he doing there? Cuba fikirkan.

The psychiatrist testified that the late Ahmad Najib was normal and did not have any mental illness. He was tempted as Canny was a beautiful and slim lady.

The commentator that agitated me said something like, ‘Kau tengok tak baju Canny pakai tu? Seluar pendek putih kot, nampak kaki gebu. Kalau aku, aku pun tak tahan’.

This world is filled with beautiful ladies, but none of them deserves to be raped because of some raging testosterones of a male. We are no longer in the jahilliyah era. The era of which when your wandering eyes set upon a girl you find somewhat attractive and wanting to ‘conquer’, have a taste of her, you just do it there and then. Immaterial if she wanted to or not.

“Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do”

I know how probably a glimpse of flesh could send an electric vibes down there. Dari mata turun ke hati’ kononnya (padahal turun jauh lagi ke bawah kan?). If you do not want that to happen then, *lower your gaze*.

I am completely aware of the Surah an Nur 31 that comes right after, that gives an obligation to the females to cover their aurah.

“And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment….”

The ‘believing women” refers to women who believes in Islam, in Allah. Hence this phrase does not refer to the late Canny who wasn’t a Muslim thus she had no obligation to cover her aurah. ‘No compulsion in Islam’ remember?

It seems like the majority of us tends to forget that there is an ayah reminding us on the male obligation to lower their gaze. A tweet that deepens my thoughts on this from Qasim Rashid;
“Guy : But she’s wearing revealing clothing!
Quran: Why are you staring? Stop
Guy: But it’s revealing
Quran: Why – Are – You – Staring?”

Apa signifikasinya disini? Mengikut turutan Al Quran, brothers jaga pandangana terlebih dahulu. Kedua, baru datangnya tanggungjawab wanita untuk menjaga aurah. Jadi jangan lah sampai juling mata merenung wanita berpakaian seksi mahupun di post-post fb/ig. (Pastu acah tegur demi kebaikan.

Terima kasih kerana sudi baca, saya tahu panjang melebar cerita saya.
