Sanggup Ke Tepek Asid Di Muka Setiap Hari?

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamualaikum wbt.

Yeah this is another submission pasal skincare but this is not about cara nak hilangkan jerawat. I decided to write this after i nampak orang guna a facial scrub the incorrect way, and i pilih this channel sebab i tak tau where and how else to convey this.

The intention of this submission is to help inform misinformed people (skincare founders, sellers and users) on the correct way to use certain skincare products to avoid damaging their skin.

I bukan nak jatuhkan local products or nak tutup periuk nasi orang or apa2 negative yang korang fikir. I just nak tolong and i’m doing this for the sake of Allah swt.

The scrub i mentioned above is the popular whitening facial scrub yang ladyboss dia is known as the “Fairytale Barbie” and if i’m not mistaken also known as the “Malaysian Barbie”. I taknak mention the brand so if you tak tau tanya kawan eh. Some MUAs (MUA=makeup artist) pun selalu promote sebab this scrub has helped one particular MUA with her blemishes tremendously.

I don’t deny scrub ni memang nampak bagus sebab MUA tu kata dulu muka dia teruk berjerawat, kulit kasar and banyak parut tapi sekarang dah licin, parut makin pudar and muka makin putih.

The insta page of this scrub pesan kalau nak flawless kena rajin, kena scrub hari-hari. So the users of this product pun innocently ikut lah cakap the ladyboss. Nak cantik gebu tanpa cela macam Barbie kena lah ikut cakap Barbie kan?

Nak cantik kena rajin tu memang betul. Orang yang takde skin problems jer yang boleh malas tapi kulit tetap cantik. But the part yang suruh scrub hari-hari tu yang silap kat situ.

Based on my research, experienced aestheticians and dermatologists do not recommend kita exfoliate our face tiap-tiap hari. Exfoliation ni ada dua jenis–physical (scrubs & tools) and chemical (acids, enzymes & retinol). Daily physical and chemical exfoliation (may or may not include retinol — ni pun siapa yang nak info kena research sendiri k) memang buat kulit kita bersih and licin, but it can cause many problems to our skin yang maybe kita tak sedar. Scrub yang i’m talking about ni dah lah nampak kasar, so bila baca orang guna every day buat i rasa kesian and takut for them.

The text between ———- lines kat bawah ni is taken from the blog of an aesthetician named Renee Rouleau, whose clients include Demi Lovato and Sofia Vergara.

Should You Be Exfoliating Your Skin Every Day?

There have been many amazing advancements in skin care the past twenty years but one area that has really exploded is with products that exfoliate the skin. Between enzymes, acids, retinols, exfoliating brushes (like Clarisonic) and facial scrubs, should these products be used every day? Is exfoliating on a daily basis too much for the skin?
Without a doubt, you can dramatically improve your skin’s appearance by removing dead, expired skin cells and revealing new cells that make your skin look bright, smooth and glowing. But exfoliating the skin daily, for most skin types, is too much. Here’s why.
Exfoliating the skin daily with the various types of exfoliants can cause:…
– a stripped moisture (lipid) barrier layer resulting in dehydration, flaking, redness and inflammation
– dryness (moisture will seep out of the cells)
– aging due to chronic and prolonged inflammation
– destruction of healthy cells
– stimulation of melanin activity possibly resulting in an increase of hyperpigmentation (brown spots and patches)
– products to sting and irritate the skin (due to a stripped barrier function)
Simply put, your skin needs those protective layers to keep the skin in a healthy state and retain its natural moisture. Daily exfoliation of rotating brushes, retinol, acids, enzymes and scrubs is harming the skin, more than you realize. Trust me on this one.

I bagi 1 je contoh ya sebab nak paste banyak-banyak nanti panjang sangat karangan ni. So for more advice from professionals korang google sendiri.

Now nak cerita pasal local skincare, non-local skincare and acids pulak.

I got to know about acids bila i started reading up on skincare ingredients. I started researching on skincare ingredients lebih kurang setahun lepas sebab i tergerak hati nak try local products. By local i mean bukan yang jual kat pharmacies tu but the ones yang founders dia kulit putih pink-pink sampai hidung diaorang pun pink tu.

Sebelum i guna acid, i tried 3 local skincare brands. The first brand i tried (Brand A) was just so-so. So after a few months i decided to try a different brand (Brand B). Yang ni muka founder dia tak pink tapi licin lah kulit dia. Normally i would try the basic set jer dulu but this time i beli set yang siap dengan mask sebab i was convinced this brand boleh buat muka i glowy. Was i glowy? Nope. I was the opposite of glowy. I jadi kusam sebab muka i kering. The cleanser made the area around the sides of my mouth tu kering sangat sampai the skin rasa macam cracking bila i bercakap. So after about a week i stopped using Brand B punya cleanser and bought a new cleanser (Brand C) from the pharmacy. But this new cleanser lagi jahat! My whole face naik jerawat lagi banyak pastu kering mengelupas tapi tetap oily. Since then i began reading up more about my skin type and condition, and i learned that cleansers from Brand B and Brand C punya pH levels were obviously too high.

Masa ni i belum give up lagi on local skincare so i tried Brand D pulak. This brand i suka sebab jerawat i cepat kecut and parut i cepat hilang. Tapi because of all the reading i’ve done, i stopped buying after 1 set due to the incomplete list of ingredients.

Alhamdulillah in my case, the local skincare i tried takde buat muka i teruk naik jerawat nanah macam orang lain. Local brand (Brand B) punya cleanser
memang buat muka i rasa kering and gatal tapi the worst culprit was the cleanser from a western brand (Brand C).

Some yang dah terkena dengan local skincare (ada yang baru je try 1 brand/product) sometimes make a blanket judgement that all local skincare products are nothing but bogus claims. The frustration is completely understandable but it’s not fair to generalise that way. Just because of 1 bad experience or a few bad ones, kita kutuk-kutuk and pandang hina semua local products. Tak baik lah macam tu kan? The point i’m trying to make here is Western Beauty tak semestinya bagus and Local Beauty tak semestinya tak bagus. Asian Beauty pun bukan nya semua bagus tau. If you do your research a majority of Korean cleansers are high in pH.

A few days ago a submitter, Miss AB, wrote on how she improved her acne with Cosrx. Because of what she said mesti ada yang dah beli acids kan? I only baca bits and pieces of her submission on a K-Beauty insta shop and from what i gathered Miss AB ni uses the same AB (Asian Beauty) blogs yang i pun baca as references. These blogs memang very helpful but the thing about these AB enthusiasts is, diaorg guna AHA and/or BHA setiap hari. Am not saying their practices are wrong, but we need to keep in mind that these women are not professionals in the field of skincare. Cara diaorang guna acids goes against the advice given by professionals. A reader of one of the blogs once commented dia guna scrub and follow with an acid in the same routine! Ngeri! Imagine kalau ramai readers copy her scrub + acid routine…double ngeri!

These women may have been using acids for 5 years and seeing only positive results. But Renee Rouleau, for example, has 25 years’ experience in dealing with people’s skin and seeing all kinds of skin damages resulting from bad skincare practices and regimes. Cosrx, in response to my email to them said, acids which are high in concentration i.e. AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid and BHA Blackhead Power Liquid should be used 2-3 times a week and not daily because too much acids can irritate the skin. The Cosrx rep also said the AHA and BHA liquid should be used separately. Dia tulis semua ni under the subheading “Warning” tau so it shows how serious it is.

This clearly shows that we should listen to experienced professionals and not follow blindly everything the layman do.

So from one skincare user to another, my non-professional advice is — read up and arm yourself with knowledge. Jangan ikut bulat-bulat jer apa layman cakap, sebab:
1) kalau kulit kita rosak, bukan company/brand founders/sellers yang tanggung but kita sendiri yang tanggung. We can blame the products yang buat kulit kita rosak, marah and maki whoever but ultimately we are the ones who will have to live with our face yang jadi teruk tu sampai lah dia elok balik
2) it’s much easier to prevent damage than to repair damage. Prevention is better than cure kan?

To creators and sellers of products —please read up and do your research. Please jangan main hentam jer sebab nak jual. Please jangan main cakap jer sebab nak attract buyers. Please stop saying “ada kelulusan KKM” or “dah lulus KKM” or “selamat sebab ada KKM” or sewaktu dengan nya. If you google maksud nombor NOT tu, you will learn that nombor NOT tu bukan nombor kelulusan KKM but NOT tu sebenarnya NOTification of products ajer. KKM tak buat tests pun on cosmetics products sebelum bagi nombor NOT tu and cosmetics products tak wajib pun ada KKM. Kalau ubat-ubatan memang wajib and nombor kelulusan dia will start with MAL. All these i baca from various sources which you can always google to verify.

Lagi satu, please be transparent and honest with your ingredients. Local products ni (tak semua but kebanyakan) bila list out ingredients, dia list yang best-best jer macam Arbutin, Aloe Vera, Vitamin C, etc. Yang chemical ingredients dia taknak bagi tau. Ada sekali tu i email mintak ingredients of a supplement tapi dia tanya i balik kenapa i nak tau. Eh supplement ni nak masuk dalam badan ni. Mesti lah i nak tau apa yang i makan. Pelik la. What have you got to hide? If you claim your products takde dangerous chemicals, kenapa tak list out jer everything? Local brands like Safi, Simply Siti, Ginvera, etc boleh jer list out all the ingredients. Maybe this is a requirement to sell retail, but the question still remains — kenapa local brands yang lain cannot be transparent?

I pun nak cantik so i pun nak cuba serum yang korang jual tu. You say takde bahan kimia merbahaya. Ok, that’s good. Tapi i nak tau every single chemical yang tak bahaya in your products sebab i nak tepek on my face ni. Tapi because of this non-transparency i rasa susah lah nak support local skincare. Dengan non-local brands i tak penah ada problems nak tau ingredients and definitely tak penah kena question when trying to obtain ingredients of their products.

Bila cakap pasal transparency, it also includes displaying prices of products. Nak tau harga pun kena PM DM ke? It’s a complete turn off lah, and i know ramai yang rasa sama macam i rasa. Tapi i malas nak bebel panjang pasal PM DM ni. Letih. Sama letih macam sellers yang dah tulis semua detail termasuk harga untuk kesenangan kita bersama, tapi ada ramai lagi manusia yang rajin teramat type “PM/DM/harga?/ukuran?” tapi tak rajin langsung baca details sampai habis. #nakselitjugak #sebabgeramdenganorangmacamni

Last but not least, i nak sampaikan 1 pesanan daripada sorang ustaz (tak ingat nama dia). He said berdosa bila kita guna the word “dijamin” macam dijamin cantik, dijamin putih, dijamin kurus, etc sebab siapa kita nak bagi jaminan. Allah jer yang boleh jamin semua benda, and only dengan izin Allah jer krim A boleh buat kita putih and montok. Ustaz tu kata guna lah “InsyaAllah” instead of “dijamin”. Wallahualam hukum berdosa ustaz ni betul ke tak, tapi apa yang dia cakap tu kalau kita fikir memang betul sebab tanpa izin Allah nothing can happen betul tak?

I’m not saying semua sellers macam apa yang i said above. I’m also not saying the ones yang macam tu buat dengan sengaja. I’m just saying please be cautious. Kalau customers dapat negative reaction from using your products sebab you did not provide the correct information, mesti you rasa bersalah kan? I hope you answered “yes, bersalah”. Lagi satu, apa yang kita buat mesti kita nak keberkatan Allah. Tak kira lah bisnes or kerja makan gaji sebab duit tu lah yang kita guna untuk makan and bagi anak, bini, suami and parents makan jugak.

Oh, ni lari topik sikit. This is to sellers yang jual baju — kalau material baju tu bukan cotton tolong lah jangan tulis cotton. Kalau material tu agak-agak macam tak serap peluh, makna nya bukan cotton lah tu. Please try to be as honest and as accurate as you can be ok. Also, kalau baju tu jarang please tulis kat description. Contohi lah Poplook. Baju yang agak jarang are stated in the description. For those yang taktau, Poplook is owned by non-Muslims. So it’s really sad to see non-Muslims being more honest than us Muslims. Keberkatan above keuntungan please, always.

Sekian ucapan dari i. Thank you to those yang baca dari awal sampai lah habis. If i ada tersilap kata-kata and if i ada mengguris perasaan siapa-siapa, i mintak maaf banyak-banyak. #jangankecamplease
